Permanent bridges are restorations which replace one or more missing teeth. If a permanent molar is missing, it can be replaced by placing crowns (caps) on the teeth beside the space where the tooth is missing. A false tooth or pontic is attached to the crowns and the three piece bridge is permanently cemented to the two teeth. Bridges are one alternative to replacing missing teeth when there are teeth next to the space. These restorations placed properly can last for years, especially if the patient has good oral hygiene.
Bridges can be used to replace missing front teeth and missing back teeth. It takes two appointments to complete the procedure. Between visits the patient has temporary crowns on the teeth.
